Buying a New Home

The process of finding the right home for you is a both exciting and sometimes stressful adventure. Some things to keep in mind when purchasing a new home:

Don't settle for anything less than what will make you happy.

Patience is key when searching for houses or apartments, if you find a house that is not up to your standards wait it out, there are always more houses coming on the market constantly. You don't want to end up regretting spending a lot money on a house that you settled on because you can just deal with it.

Always do your research for neighborhoods and house types.

–Get information on school districts surrounding the home you are looking at. Even if you don't have children school districts can have an influence on resale value of a home.

–Call the local police department to check out crime rates in the area.

–Drive around neighborhoods you may be interested in all times of the day and night. (You may uncover something you wouldn't have seen at the property viewing times.)

–Know your house or apartment types. (Cape style house, Ranch style house, High Ranch style house, Studio apartment, Garden apartment etc.)

–Before putting an offer on a house check out comparables in the area. (Look for trends in pricing for houses or apartments in similar contion.)

–Make sure there are no open permits or surprise back money owed to town for the property by calling the town hall.

Never judge a book by its cover.

–A new home may look like a dream come true from the outside but always be sure to have a thorough inspection done by a professional. (Underlying issues which are not visible to the untrained eye may cost thousands in the long run.)

–On the other hand, a house which may not look as appealing from the outside can end up being a deal of the lifetime with a few affordable cosmetic touches.

Always be as educated as possible when you apply for a home loan / mortgage.
